Testosterone Formate

Also known as Test formate

An almost purely theoretical testosterone ester in which the 17-beta hydroxyl is esterified with formic acid, the shortest possible carboxylic acid. The one-carbon formate group provides essentially no depot lag, so it would behave almost like unesterified testosterone suspension with a very rapid, spiking release. It has no pharmaceutical history and appears only occasionally as a novelty in underground discussion.

01 Overview

Ester chain length controls how slowly a steroid leaves the injection site: longer chains slow release. Formate is the shortest ester conceivable, giving release kinetics barely distinguishable from free testosterone. There is no clinical or veterinary product, no published pharmacokinetic study, and no established manufacturing standard.

Because any formate ester hydrolyses almost immediately to testosterone, users would experience the sharp peaks and troughs of testosterone suspension, requiring near-daily or twice-daily injections. The compound is included here for completeness within the testosterone-ester family; it is not a practical or well-characterised option and carries all the risks of high-frequency injection plus unknown purity.

02 Mechanism

The formate ester is rapidly hydrolysed by esterases to release testosterone, which binds the androgen receptor to drive anabolism and aromatises to estradiol.

03 Dosing

Enhancement (theoretical)200–400 mg/wkIMWould require daily or twice-daily injection due to near-instant release.
