Mebolazine

Mebolazine (dimethazine's chemical cousin; the azine dimer of mestanolone, also called dymethazine in some literature) is an orally active designer steroid formed by joining two mestanolone-like units via a nitrogen-nitrogen azine bridge that hydrolyses in vivo to release active 17-alpha-methyl-DHT. It is a non-aromatising, dry, strongly androgenic and hepatotoxic oral with essentially no controlled human data.

01 Overview

Mebolazine was described in older pharmaceutical literature (as 'roxilon') and later resurfaced as a grey-market prohormone. The azine bridge links two steroid molecules; after ingestion, hydrolysis liberates a mestanolone-type androgen, so the pharmacology tracks that of methylated DHT: no estrogen conversion, a hard/dry effect and marked hepatic strain.

Because it was sold as an unregulated 'designer' oral, human evidence is limited to anecdote and adverse-event reports. It should be regarded as a hepatotoxic 17-alpha-alkylated androgen with an unfavourable androgenic-to-anabolic balance.

02 Mechanism

Prodrug: azine linkage hydrolyses in vivo to release a 17-alpha-methylated DHT-type androgen that binds the androgen receptor; C17-alpha methyl confers oral bioavailability.
