Dienedione (3,17-Keto Prohormone)
A grey-market androstadiene-dione prohormone (androsta-3,5-diene-7,17-dione-adjacent dione) marketed as a designer "pro-anabolic" that converts in vivo toward an active androgen. Essentially uncharacterised in humans; sold in supplements after the 2005 and 2014 prohormone crackdowns.
01 Overview
Dienedione is one of the diene-dione prohormones that proliferated in supplements marketed as "legal" anabolics. As a Δ3,5-diene 17-ketone it is presented as a precursor that undergoes hepatic conversion to a more active androgen after ingestion, in the same spirit as the earlier androstenedione and later trendione (trenavar) products.
Human pharmacology is effectively nonexistent: there are no controlled conversion or efficacy studies, and it is known mainly from supplement labels, forum anecdote and anti-doping detection interest. It is captured by anabolic-steroid control laws in the US as a prohormone.
02 Mechanism
Prohormone: an inactive or weakly active Δ-diene 17-ketosteroid proposed to undergo 17β-reduction (and further conversion) to an active androgen that then agonises the androgen receptor.
