Zapizolam

Also known as Zapizolam

Zapizolam is a triazolobenzodiazepine designer drug related to alprazolam, sold as a research chemical. It produces sedation, anxiolysis and amnesia and is reported to be potent by weight. It has no clinical human characterisation; information is limited to analytical detection and user reports.

01 Overview

Zapizolam is a triazolobenzodiazepine, a structural class that includes alprazolam and the various -zolam designer benzodiazepines. It appeared on the research-chemical market and has been detected in seized products. It is typically encountered as powder, pellets or blotters and is potent per milligram.

Reported effects are those of a fast-onset triazolobenzodiazepine: anxiolysis, sedation, muscle relaxation and amnesia. As with related -zolam compounds, blackouts and disinhibition at higher doses, along with rapid development of dependence, are the main practical hazards. No clinical human data exist.

02 Mechanism

Positive allosteric modulation of GABA-A receptors at the benzodiazepine site; the triazole ring confers high potency and fast onset.
