Roxibolone
An obscure 11β-hydroxy C19 steroid (11β-hydroxyandrostenedione-type) assigned an anabolic-steroid INN but essentially never characterised in humans. Related 11β-hydroxy androgens have very weak direct anabolic/androgenic activity but serve as precursors to potent 11-oxygenated androgens.
01 Overview
Roxibolone is a little-known 11β-hydroxylated C19 steroid catalogued as an anabolic androgen but with almost no published pharmacology of its own. Chemically it belongs with the 11β-hydroxyandrostenedione (11OHA4) family of adrenal C19 steroids.
That family is interesting less for direct potency — 11β-hydroxyandrostenedione has androgenic and anabolic activity estimated at a small fraction of testosterone — than as a biosynthetic precursor to 11-ketotestosterone and 11-keto-DHT, which are genuinely potent androgens. Roxibolone itself remains a near-uncharacterised name-only compound, hence the very low research score.
02 Mechanism
Weak androgen receptor agonist as the 11β-hydroxy C19 steroid itself; its main significance is as a precursor within the 11-oxygenated androgen pathway that yields more potent 11-keto androgens.

|---|---|---|---|
| Weak anabolic activityRelated 11β-hydroxy C19 steroids show very weak direct anabolic/androgenic effects in animal work. | <1/10 of testosterone | Preclinical | |
| Precursor to potent 11-keto androgensMay feed the 11-oxygenated pathway toward potent 11-ketotestosterone. | Indirect | Preclinical |
