Pentylone
Pentylone is a substituted cathinone stimulant of the 'bath salts' family, structurally related to pentedrone and methylone. It combines stimulant and mild entactogenic effects and has appeared in poisonings and deaths, often mis-sold as or mixed with other cathinones. Human data is limited to case reports and forensic analysis.
01 Overview
Pentylone (bk-methyl-K, a methylenedioxy-substituted cathinone) is part of the second-generation synthetic cathinone wave. It has been detected in seized 'bath salt' and 'research chemical' products, sometimes as an adulterant or replacement for other cathinones.
Human knowledge is limited to emergency-department case reports, forensic toxicology and monitoring by drug agencies, including cases of severe agitation, cardiovascular events and death. Its stimulant-entactogen profile carries the class hazards of cardiovascular strain, compulsive redosing, harsh comedown and unknown long-term neurotoxicity.
02 Mechanism
Acts as a monoamine reuptake inhibitor and releasing agent affecting dopamine, noradrenaline and serotonin, characteristic of methylenedioxy-substituted cathinones.
