Methenolone Acetate (Injectable)
An injectable oil solution of methenolone acetate, the short-acting acetate ester of primobolan's parent DHT-derived steroid. Acetate esterification of methenolone is more commonly encountered orally, but an injectable oil form gives fast onset with frequent dosing. It shares primobolan's reputation as a mild, non-aromatising, well-tolerated cutting steroid with a favourable side-effect profile at the cost of modest potency.
01 Overview
Methenolone is a 1-methylated dihydrotestosterone derivative that does not aromatise and is not 17-alpha-alkylated, so it lacks the estrogenic and hepatotoxic problems of many other steroids. The enanthate ester (Primobolan Depot) is the classic injectable; the acetate ester is shorter-acting and gives quicker but briefer coverage, requiring more frequent injections.
Because methenolone is only mildly anabolic, it is used for lean mass preservation during calorie restriction rather than bulk. It is regarded as one of the gentler injectables on lipids and the liver, though it still suppresses natural testosterone and, being widely counterfeited and expensive, is frequently faked.
02 Mechanism
Methenolone activates the androgen receptor to preserve and modestly build lean tissue; its 1-methyl structure blocks aromatisation and it is not 5-alpha reduced further, giving a mild, non-estrogenic profile.
03 Dosing
| Tier | Dose | Route | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Common | 300–500 mg/wk | IM | Split into every-other-day injections due to short ester. |
| High | 500–700 mg/wk | IM | Diminishing returns; cost usually limits high dosing. |

04 Effects
| Effect | Magnitude | Evidence | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lean mass preservationValued for holding muscle during cutting phases without water retention. | Muscle retention in a deficit | Observational | |
| Mild, non-estrogenic profileNo gynecomastia or water retention from estrogen since it does not aromatise. | No aromatisation | Clinical |
05 Side effects
| Effect | Severity | Frequency | Evidence | Countermeasures |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Androgenic effects (hair, skin)Acne or accelerated hair loss possible in predisposed users, though milder than most. | Mild | Uncommon due to low androgenicity | Observational | |
| Injection-site pain (acetate)Short-ester oil injections given frequently can irritate the site. | Mild | Common | Anecdotal | |
| HPTA suppressionSuppresses natural testosterone despite its mildness. | Moderate | Universal at cycle doses | Clinical |
