Methandriol

17-alpha-methylandrostenediol, a mild anabolic that is a methylated derivative of the testosterone precursor androstenediol. Sold historically for human use and still found in veterinary products, often as the dipropionate ester, it is regarded as weak but with a reputation for synergising other steroids.

01 Overview

Methandriol is 17-alpha-methyl-androst-5-ene-3-beta,17-beta-diol, essentially a 17-alpha-methylated form of androstenediol (a testosterone precursor). It was marketed for human anabolic therapy and persists in veterinary formulations, frequently as methandriol dipropionate for a depot effect.

It is a mild compound with modest androgenic and anabolic activity. Bodybuilding lore attributes to it a synergistic or potentiating effect when stacked with other androgens, though this is anecdotal. As a 17-alpha-alkylated steroid it carries hepatotoxic potential despite its weakness. Controlled human data are minimal; the profile rests on older sources, veterinary use and anecdote.

02 Mechanism

A weak androgen receptor agonist derived from androstenediol; 17-alpha-methylation gives oral/depot activity. It can convert peripherally toward more active androgens and has some estrogenic potential.
