MBDB

MBDB (N-methyl-1,3-benzodioxolylbutanamine) is a homolog of MDMA studied by David Nichols as a prototypical "pure" entactogen with minimal stimulant or psychedelic character. It is more selective for serotonin release, producing emotional openness with little euphoria or energy, at the cost of feeling comparatively bland to recreational users.

01 Overview

MBDB was designed to probe the entactogen concept, separating MDMA's empathogenic core from its stimulant and hedonic components. It reliably produces gentle emotional relaxation but is often described as underwhelming recreationally, which limited its street uptake.

Human data are minimal beyond early exploratory studies. Its serotonin-selective profile still carries theoretical neurotoxicity and serotonin-syndrome risk. It is controlled or falls under analog provisions in most countries.

Relatively selective serotonin-releasing agent at the serotonin transporter with weak dopamine activity, yielding entactogenic effects with little stimulation.
