01 Overview

Myostatin (GDF-8) is a negative regulator of skeletal muscle growth; loss-of-function mutations produce dramatic muscle hypertrophy in animals and rare humans. This makes myostatin an attractive target, and pharma has developed antibodies and traps (bimagrumab, stamulumab, trevogrumab) — several of which increased lean mass but failed to improve strength or clinical endpoints.\n\nThe short 'GDF-8 inhibitor peptides' sold by research-chemical vendors are not those validated biologics.
