The 176-191 fragment corresponds to the part of the growth hormone molecule thought to carry its lipolytic activity, and it was the basis for the more-developed analogue AOD-9604. Vendors sell it as a way to reduce body fat, particularly abdominal fat, without the systemic effects of full growth hormone.

Supporting data are largely from rodent adipocyte and animal studies showing lipolytic and anti-lipogenic effects. There are no robust human clinical trials of this exact peptide, and the most closely related, best-studied analogue (AOD-9604) failed to beat placebo for weight loss in people. Human fat-loss claims are therefore unproven.
