Flunitrazolam

Also known as Flunitrazolam

Flunitrazolam is a triazolo analogue of flunitrazepam and one of the most potent designer benzodiazepines known, active in the microgram range. It has no clinical study in humans and carries a high risk of overdose because minute quantities are strongly sedating.

01 Overview

Flunitrazolam combines the flunitrazepam structure with a triazole ring, producing extreme potency. It is sold as a research chemical, frequently on blotters, and is active at doses of only tens to hundreds of micrograms, which makes accurate dosing very difficult outside a laboratory.

It is a GABA-A positive allosteric modulator. Its potency means that small errors in measurement can cause deep sedation, amnesia and dangerous respiratory depression, particularly if combined with other depressants. There is no formal human pharmacokinetic or safety data.

02 Mechanism

Positive allosteric modulation of GABA-A receptors at the benzodiazepine site; extreme binding potency produces strong effects at microgram doses.
