Fenugreek (Testofen / Trigonella foenum-graecum)

Also known as Trigonella foenum-graecum · Testofen · Fenuside · Methi

Fenugreek seed extract, most studied as the branded Testofen (standardised to Fenuside/saponin glycosides), is a popular libido and 'testosterone-support' supplement. Human trials fairly consistently report improved sexual function and body-composition measures, but effects on actual testosterone are mixed — some studies show a small rise, others none, and free testosterone may reflect DHT-pathway changes rather than true androgen elevation.

01 Overview

Fenugreek furostanol saponins are proposed to inhibit aromatase and 5-alpha-reductase and to support free testosterone, which is the rationale for its use as a mild hormonal aid. The most reproducible clinical outcomes are improved self-reported libido, sexual function and, in some resistance-training studies, modest body-composition benefit, rather than large hormonal shifts.

Lifters use standardised seed extracts daily for libido and as a gentle testosterone-support adjunct. It is well tolerated; the classic side effect is a maple-syrup body odour, along with occasional GI upset. Because it can lower blood glucose, diabetics on medication should monitor closely.

02 Mechanism

Furostanol saponin-rich seed extract proposed to inhibit aromatase and 5-alpha-reductase and support free testosterone, with additional glucose-lowering and libido-enhancing effects.
