Eutylone (bk-EBDB)

Also known as bk-EBDB · Eutylone · N-ethylbutylone

Eutylone (bk-EBDB, N-ethyl homologue of butylone) is a methylenedioxy synthetic cathinone with combined stimulant and mild entactogenic effects. From around 2019 it became a common substitute for MDMA and eutylone-adulterated 'ecstasy', and has been widely detected in seized and mis-sold products. Human pharmacology is uncharacterised beyond toxicology and monitoring data.

01 Overview

Eutylone belongs to the methylenedioxy cathinone group and is often encountered as a cheaper MDMA replacement, sometimes sold as MDMA itself. It is reported as more stimulating and less euphoric than MDMA, with a notably long duration that, combined with delayed onset, drives problematic redosing and insomnia. It is used orally and by insufflation.

Data are limited to early-warning-system detections, forensic reports and seized-drug surveillance, where it has featured prominently in mis-sold ecstasy. Class hazards apply: cardiovascular strain, compulsive redosing, severe comedown with prolonged insomnia, and unconfirmed long-term neurotoxicity.

02 Mechanism

Monoamine releaser/reuptake inhibitor at dopamine, noradrenaline and serotonin transporters with proportionally more catecholaminergic than serotonergic activity, giving stimulant-dominant effects with mild entactogenic character.

03 Dosing

TierDoseRouteNotes
Light30–75 mgInsufflatedFaster onset; harsh nasally.
Light50–100 mgOralDelayed onset ~45-90 min risks over-redosing before it takes effect.
Common100–200 mgOralLong duration; redosing worsens insomnia and comedown.
