Epiandrosterone
Epiandrosterone (3β-hydroxy-5α-androstan-17-one) is a naturally occurring DHEA metabolite and non-methylated prohormone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Marketed for 'dry, hard' physique effects, it is one of the milder prohormones with low hepatotoxicity, but efficacy rests almost entirely on anecdote.
01 Overview
Epiandrosterone is an endogenous steroid found in urine and a downstream metabolite of DHEA. As a supplement it is a non-methylated prohormone that converts through 3α-androstanediol to dihydrotestosterone, a potent non-aromatising androgen. Because the end product is DHT, users report increased hardness, aggression, and libido rather than mass, and no estrogenic side effects.
Unlike 17-alpha-alkylated designer steroids it is not orally methylated, so hepatotoxicity is comparatively low, and it was often stacked as a 'base' in prohormone products. There are essentially no controlled human efficacy trials; the compound is characterised mostly through metabolism and doping-control literature. Its legal status varies — it has been marketed as a dietary ingredient in some markets while being treated as a controlled prohormone in others.
