DiPT (auditory distortion)

DiPT (N,N-diisopropyltryptamine) is a synthetic tryptamine described by Shulgin that is unusual for producing predominantly auditory rather than visual effects, notably a downward shift and distortion of perceived pitch. It is used non-medically. Human data are anecdotal; potency and safety are uncharacterised, with wide individual dose variation.

01 Overview

DiPT is distinctive among psychedelics for its pronounced auditory effects: users report that sounds and voices are shifted downward in pitch and distorted, with relatively minor visual alteration. This unusual profile has made it a subject of curiosity.

No controlled human studies exist; effects and doses are known only from self-reports. The auditory distortion can persist for hours and occasionally longer, and dose responses vary between individuals. Psychological discomfort from the disorienting auditory changes is possible.

Serotonin 5-HT2A receptor agonist (classical psychedelic mechanism); the basis of its selective auditory effects is not established.
