Bromantane is an adamantane derivative developed in the Soviet Union as an actoprotector — an agent meant to sustain performance and resilience under physical and psychological stress. It has been studied in Russia for asthenic disorders and reportedly used in athletic and military settings.
Unusually, it is described as both mildly stimulating and anxiolytic, an 'adaptogenic' profile attributed to effects on dopamine synthesis. Supporting clinical evidence is limited to Russian trials in asthenia, and it is prohibited by WADA. Broader safety data in healthy long-term users are sparse.
02 Mechanism
Appears to upregulate dopamine synthesis by increasing tyrosine hydroxylase and related enzyme expression, with additional effects on GABA/serotonin systems producing combined stimulant-anxiolytic actions.
