BPC-157

A synthetic 15-amino-acid peptide derived from a sequence in human gastric juice, marketed for accelerated healing of tendon, ligament, muscle and gut tissue. Despite an enormous online following, there are essentially no controlled human trials — the entire evidence base is rodent studies and user anecdote. Sold only as a research chemical; not approved for human use anywhere.

01 Overview

BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound-157) is a partial sequence of a protein found in gastric juice. In rats it has repeatedly been reported to speed healing of transected tendons, damaged muscle, and colitis, and to protect the gut lining against NSAID injury. These preclinical findings are consistent across many papers, but the great majority originate from a small number of related research groups, and the peptide has never completed a published, peer-reviewed randomised controlled trial in humans.

What is claimed — rapid tendon/ligament repair, joint pain relief, gut healing, systemic anti-inflammatory effects — is almost entirely extrapolated from animal work and self-reported user experience. Because there is no human pharmacokinetic or safety dataset, dosing conventions are inherited from bodybuilding forums rather than clinical study. Buyers should treat it as an experimental compound of unknown human efficacy and unknown long-term safety.

02 Mechanism

Proposed to promote angiogenesis and fibroblast activity and to upregulate growth-factor and nitric-oxide pathways (including VEGFR2 and the FAK-paxillin pathway), accelerating tissue repair. Mechanistic claims derive from rodent and in-vitro work; the pathways operative in humans are unconfirmed.
