Bolandiol is 19-nor-4-androstenediol (estr-4-ene-3β,17β-diol), a prohormone that converts in vivo to nandrolone (19-nortestosterone). The dipropionate diester here esterifies both hydroxyls for a longer-acting injectable depot, distinct from the unesterified bolandiol catalogued separately.
Bolandiol appeared historically in some European combination tonics and later as a nandrolone-precursor prohormone. Because its active metabolite is nandrolone, it inherits the nandrolone profile: good lean-mass anabolism, mild aromatisation to a weak estrogen, progestogenic activity, and long-lasting detectability (a persistent anti-doping concern for the 19-nor family).
02 Mechanism
Prohormone/ester depot: hydrolysis of the propionate esters releases bolandiol, which is oxidised to nandrolone, a 19-nortestosterone androgen receptor agonist with progestogenic activity and weak aromatisation.
