01 Overview
Argireline (acetyl hexapeptide-3/8) is derived from the N-terminus of SNAP-25 and is proposed to compete within the SNARE complex, mildly reducing catecholamine and acetylcholine release and thereby softening facial muscle contraction. It is one of the most widely used anti-wrinkle peptides in cosmetics.
Evidence is limited to small, often manufacturer-linked topical studies reporting modest reductions in periorbital and forehead wrinkle depth. Effects are far weaker than injected botulinum toxin, and penetration of an intact hexapeptide through skin is itself debated.
