Adipotide (FTPP)
An experimental pro-apoptotic peptide (a homing sequence fused to a mitochondrial-disrupting KLA motif) designed to selectively kill the blood vessels feeding white adipose tissue, causing fat loss. Demonstrated weight loss in obese primates, but with dose-limiting kidney toxicity and no completed human efficacy trials.
01 Overview
Adipotide (also written FTPP / prohibitin-targeting peptide) couples a peptide that homes to prohibitin on adipose vasculature with a pro-apoptotic KLA sequence that disrupts mitochondrial membranes in the targeted endothelial cells. Destroying the fat tissue's blood supply drove marked, rapid weight loss in obese rhesus monkeys.
The same mechanism produced renal toxicity in primate studies, a key reason it has not advanced to established human use. It is sold on the grey market for fat loss well beyond any safety evidence; the closely related bare slug 'adipotide' already exists in this database and this entry covers the FTPP-designated variant.
