5-Amino-1MQ is a small-molecule (technically not a peptide) NNMT inhibitor sold in research-peptide circles for fat loss and metabolic effects. Evidence is preclinical only — rodent studies show reduced adiposity — with no controlled human trials and only self-reported anecdote in humans.

01 Overview

5-Amino-1-methylquinolinium (5-Amino-1MQ) inhibits nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an enzyme overexpressed in the fat tissue of obese and metabolically impaired animals. In diet-induced obese mice, NNMT inhibition raised cellular NAD+ and SAM levels and reduced fat mass without changing food intake, which drives its marketing as an oral fat-loss compound.\n\nDespite widespread sale as a capsule, no peer-reviewed human clinical trial has been published. Human dosing, safety and efficacy are entirely extrapolated from animal work and vendor anecdote, so any use is experimental.

02 Mechanism

Inhibits NNMT, sparing nicotinamide for NAD+ synthesis and increasing SAM, which in rodents reduces adipocyte lipid storage and increases energy expenditure.
