2C-T-2 (2,5-dimethoxy-4-ethylthiophenethylamine) is a sulphur-containing member of the 2C series. Like other 2C-T compounds it produces psychedelic effects with a pronounced body load and is associated with vasoconstriction. It has been linked to fatalities, particularly when combined with monoamine oxidase inhibitors. Human data are limited to case reports and anecdote.

01 Overview

2C-T-2 is a substituted phenethylamine bearing an ethylthio group at the 4-position. It acts as a serotonin 5-HT2A agonist and is taken orally or, historically, insufflated. Reports describe strong visual and emotional effects accompanied by a heavy physical load and, in some accounts, marked peripheral vasoconstriction.

The 2C-T sub-series is of particular concern because several members are metabolised by monoamine oxidase, so combination with MAO inhibitors (including some antidepressants and certain drugs) can produce dangerous, potentially fatal reactions. Deaths involving 2C-T-2 and the closely related 2C-T-7 have been documented. Formal human pharmacology is lacking.

Agonist at serotonin 5-HT2A receptors; the 4-ethylthio substituent is a substrate for monoamine oxidase, creating interaction risk with MAOIs.
