2-MMC (2-methylmethcathinone) is a positional isomer of mephedrone with the methyl group at the ortho position. It appeared on the research-chemical market as a non-controlled alternative to 3-MMC and 4-MMC. Human pharmacology is essentially unknown; it is one of the least-studied cathinones in wide circulation.

01 Overview

2-MMC is sold as a legal-status alternative to its more common isomers. Anecdotal reports describe it as noticeably weaker and more stimulating than mephedrone, with less euphoria, which encourages heavier dosing and redosing. It is used orally and by insufflation.

There is essentially no clinical or forensic literature specific to 2-MMC beyond early-warning-system identification. Class hazards apply: cardiovascular strain, compulsive redosing, severe comedown, and unconfirmed long-term neurotoxicity.

02 Mechanism

Presumed monoamine releaser/reuptake inhibitor by analogy to other methylmethcathinone isomers; the ortho substitution is associated with reduced potency in related series.
