2-Aminoindane

Also known as 2-AI · 2-Aminoindane · 2-Aminoindan

2-Aminoindane (2-AI) is a conformationally constrained amphetamine analogue in which the side chain is locked into a rigid indane ring. It is a noradrenaline-dominant stimulant sold as a research chemical, with limited older pharmacological literature but essentially no modern human safety data.

01 Overview

2-AI is the parent of the aminoindane class, structurally an amphetamine whose alkyl chain is fused into a rigid bicyclic ring. This constraint biases its activity toward noradrenaline and dopamine release with comparatively little serotonergic action, giving a stimulant rather than entactogenic profile.

The aminoindanes were explored in mid-20th-century pharmacology, so a little animal data exists, but 2-AI itself has no meaningful clinical characterisation. It re-emerged as a research chemical valued for a clean stimulant effect; users report strong cardiovascular stimulation.

02 Mechanism

Releaser and reuptake inhibitor acting mainly at noradrenaline and dopamine transporters, with weak serotonergic activity due to the rigid indane structure.
